Introduction and Brief History of the organization:

Janamukti Anusthan(JMA) is a non-Governmental Organization established in 1996-97.It works in  Socio-economically vulnerable blocks of Bolangir district.The mission of the organization is integrated development of the poor and marginalized section of the society. To overcome the emerging issues like poverty, drought and chronic hunger of the district some youths and victimized group came to the front and formed an organization i.e., Janamukti Anusthan. It’s a membership-based organization. More than 10000 members directly associated with the organization. The core focus of JMA has been checking distress migration in socio economically vulnerable blocks under Bolangir district. Some of the key strategies adopted by the organization are Employment Generation for reducing distress migration, Intervening to check food crisis hunger and related problems, Checking distress selling of agriculture produce and to develop proper marketing system, Protection, collection, processing and marketing of the forest produce, Organizing the unorganized laborers through the labour society and to ensure employment for them, Creating irrigation infrastructures and renovating the traditional water bodies for agriculture purpose, Facilitating at grassroots level to create Climate Resilient Infrastructures(CRIs) and livelihoods practices in climatic vulnerable blocks through  government programmes and schemes. Mitigating disaster through the collaborative approach.JMA has partnered with Govt projects, projects by donors and established linkages with Govt depts and PRIs to reduce distress migration in Muribahal and adjoining migration prone and drought prone blocks by linking migrant families with govt programmes and schemes, land development and creation of irrigation infrastructures under MGNREGS for migrant families and assisting them to improve farm productivity and market linkages.

Objectives

  • To assist the people of this area, particularly the weaker section for their socio, political and economic upliftment.
  • To enable the people to be aware of the various Govt. schemes meant for them and assist the people and government for their effective implementation.
  • Organize the people for the development of this area through meetings, conferences, and cultural activities.
  • To build awareness among the people about the exploitation and operation prevailing in the society and take necessary action for its eradication.
  • To build awareness among the people reforms the social evils.
  • To build awareness among the people for the protection and growth of the forest and to assist the government in this and to take necessary steps for harvesting water for irrigation by arranging small streams and other water resources in the area.

Target groups

Small and marginal farmers, landless, Homeless, widow-headed disabled, agriculture laborers and unorganized laborers, Migrant, bonded, and child laborers.
